A faction of Nepali Congress, led by its senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, has launched a campaign to pressurise party President and incumbent Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, into calling the Mahasamiti meeting as soon as possible.

The Mahasamiti meeting should be held every year, according to the party statute.

The Paudel camp is also dissatisfied with Deuba’s handling of the first and second phases of local level elections and has blamed the party President for pessimistic results.

Therefore, from district-wise meeting of leaders and cadres, the faction wants to put pressure on Deuba to review the election strategies and improve them so as to secure better results in provincial and federal polls to be held by January next year.

The faction held a meeting in Lalitpur district on Tuesday as the first step towards the campaign, a source informs, adding Paudel and former general secretary Prakash Man Singh had addressed the gathering.

“This campaign will go to all the districts,” a Central Working Committee member close to Paudel says, “We should break our silence and come out in order to stop autocracy of the leadership and downfall of the party.”
