Kathmandu, August 13
Nepal has urged India to open all 56 flood gates of the Saptakoshi dam after water in river exceeded danger levels.
Home Minister Janardan Sharma said hi-level talks are on between the two countries to open all the gates. “I have talked to the Indian authorities through the foreign ministry, I have also had a conversation with the Indian ambassador,” Sharma told Onlinekhabar.
According a past agreement, although the dam is in Nepal, India needs to agree to open the floodgates of the dam.
In August 2008, a part of the embankment failed, and the river inundated thousands of hectares of land in both Nepal and India.
