Kathmandu, September 28

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has issued an ordinance to regulate the sale and use of acids and other harmful chemicals, on Monday.

The ordinance was issued so as to introduce severe punishments for acid attacks, which are on the rise currently. Stakeholders and activists had been long demanding for such a law.

Consequently, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had directed officials to prepare a law as soon as possible.

The new law has a provision of a jail sentence up to 20 years for the convict of acid attack.

Meanwhile, President Bhandari also issued two other ordinances to amend the Criminal Case Procedure and the act on Nepal Police and provincial police organisations, on Monday itself.
