Nepal PM Oli may dissolve House if process to topple government starts: Industries Minister Pandey

Kathmandu, July 17

A minister has warned that the beleaguered KP Oli government may choose to dissolve the Parliament.

Article 298 of the Constitution has not envisioned formation of a new government in the present context, Industries Minister Som Prasad Pandey said in Kathmandu on Sunday, adding: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli may choose to dissolve the House if the Nepali Congress and the CPN-Maoist Centre initiate a process for formation of a new government on the basis of a majority in the Parliament.

Speaking at a Reporters’ Club face-to-face, Pandey said ‘the inevitable’ may happen if political parties keep interpreting the Constitution to serve their petty interests.

At the programme, Maoist leader Barshaman Pun said the Prime Minister does not have the authority to dissolve the House.

Maoist leader Pun challenged PM Oli to show his majority in the Parliament instead of mobilising youths on the streets in support of the government.
