Nepal Parliament to be in session at 1 pm, chief whips meeting one hour before

Kathmandu, February 21

After a prolonged hiatus,  the Parliament is conducting its meeeting on  Tuesday afternoon. Before the meeting scheduled to start at 1 pm, Speaker Onsari Gharti has called a meeting of  chief whips of major political parties. This meeting will hold discussions on agendas for the 1 pm meeting.

These developments come at a time when the government-sponsored Constitution Amendment Bill has been pending in the Parliament. After announcing the date for elections, it has said it will also expedite the amendment proposal. Though the government has announced to hold local level elections in May, United Democratic Madheshi Front has said it will not take part in the elections unless and until the House passes the Bill with its own sets of amendments. The chief whips’ meeting is taking place one hour before the Parliament meeting.
