Nepal men’s cricket team qualifies for Asian Games

Kathmandu, June 2

The Nepal men’s cricket team has qualified for the Asian Games to be held in Japan.

Nepal secured qualification alongside Malaysia after Malaysia defeated China in a Group A match of the Asian Games qualifiers on Tuesday.

The seven-team qualification tournament has been divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals, and all four semifinalists earn qualification for the Asian Games.

Nepal’s group consisted of only Malaysia and China after Qatar withdrew from the competition. As a result, Nepal and Malaysia secured the top two spots in the group after each registered one victory.

Nepal had already defeated China in Sunday’s match. Nepal and Malaysia will now face each other on Thursday to determine the Group A winner.

Meanwhile, the Nepal women’s cricket team failed to qualify for the Asian Games after losing to China in the qualifiers.
