Kathmandu, October 26

The government has initiated plans to construct cricket stadiums in eight cities across the country to facilitate the Nepal Premier League (NPL) under a home-and-away format.

Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal announced while extending his best wishes for the third edition of the NPL, which begins today. He said the process of building stadiums with a minimum capacity of 8,000 spectators had begun.

According to Minister Lamsal, the stadiums, equipped with floodlights, are targeted for completion within three years.

“Amid the festive season, the third edition of the Nepal Premier League, a festival of Nepali cricket, begins today,” he said. “The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has initiated the process of constructing cricket stadiums with floodlights and a minimum capacity of 8,000 spectators in eight major cities across the country, allowing matches to be played on a home-and-away basis.”

He said the initiative aims to expand the NPL to different parts of the country and add a new dimension to the development of Nepali cricket.

Lamsal also urged the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to make the necessary preparations in line with the government’s plans.

“We believe the project, which aims to complete construction within three years, will expand the NPL nationwide and contribute a new dimension to the development of Nepali cricket,” he said. “We urge CAN to make the necessary preparations accordingly. Best wishes for the successful organisation of the NPL.”
