Since the lockdown, although named the prohibitory order, has begun once again in most districts of Nepal, almost everyone is locked inside their home. It has affected organisations in many ways as the employees cannot be physically present in the workstations to complete their work.

Working from home has, however, reduced a lot of workload for the organisations. Working from home was just a choice exclusively available to a few of the workers only before it became a compulsion now. It has several positives and negatives. It can be more productive as the workers can work in their own environment.

The workers, however, should have adequate accessories to work from home. The following are the basic accessories that any individual who is working from home should possess to ensure effectiveness in their job.

1. A computer

A laptop or a desktop is the first thing you need to have if you are working from home. A laptop is preferred as it can provide you with the freedom to move away and work almost anywhere you are comfortable. Also, you should expect some unexpected power interruptions when you are working in Nepal.

Basically, every task you do, store or share has to go through your personal computer. Make sure you have a properly working computer that has all the basic functions that you require to work from home.

2. Ergonomic chair

Though it may not seem that much of a necessity, a comfortable chair is always recommended for those working from home. A good and comfortable chair always helps you sit in the right posture and makes you more comfortable for working. A good chair can prevent back pains and other long-term injuries. Also, when you are comfortable, you can solely focus on your work without constantly adjusting your sitting positions. It will increase your efficiency.

3. Keyboard

A comfortable keyboard is always essential for working productively. Usually, a desktop is provided in the office when working. A lot of people may be habituated and feel comfortable with the keyboard of a desktop than the inbuilt keyboard of a laptop. If you have a desktop setup at your house, it should not be a problem. But if you have a laptop, having an alternative keyboard can be pretty handy for typing.

4. Mouse

If you are working from a laptop, a dedicated mouse will always help improve your precision and speed during your work. Having an extra mouse is very useful when you have tons of works to do and have to shuffle through multiple folders and websites.

5. Internet connection

Almost every work needs internet connectivity. It is the key to getting things done. Without an internet connection, you can pretty much do nothing professionally. You might need references or research for your works. You might need to have conversations with your colleagues or employer to update or find solutions if any problem occurs during works. A stable internet connection is a must-have these days as you rely heavily on it for your work.

6. Communication tools

When employees are learning to work from home, they have to adjust their habits accordingly. When working in an office, one can simply walk around to someone else’s desk for help or ask someone else to look at their screen. It should be the same while working from home as well. One should always have proper communication tools like a good headset with a good microphone so that they can communicate with their employers. A proper chat software or conferencing software for the employees to meet together virtually is also needed.
