Nepal-India petroleum pipeline: Works along 13 km stretch over

Pipes are being laid down for the Nepal-India petroleum pipeline, in June 2018.

Birgunj, June 26

Nepal has completed works along a 13 kilimetre section of the proposed Nepal-India petroleum pipeline.

Total 36.2 kilometre section of the project lies on Nepali side and pipes have been laid down from Nepal-India border point in Raxaul to Amalekhgunj in the first phase now.

The other 33.7 kilometre section lies on the Indian last.

The works had begun in December last year with a target to complete them in 15 months. In the first seven months, a little more than one third work has been over on the Nepali side.

Nepal Oil Corporation’s Amalekhgunj depot chief Pradeep Yadav, also the Pipeline Project Manager, says works along additional two kilometres are at the final stage. He also expresses commitment that the works will continue even in the monsoon as much as possible.

“Though expediting the works in next three months is quite challenging,” he says, “If the Forest Ministry endorses the environmental impact assessment report on time, we can continue our works along eight-kilometre forest section between Amalekhgunj and Pathalaiya even in the monsoon.”
