Nepal is importing up to 250 megawatts of power from India for this winter.

The state-run electricity distribution monopoly, Nepal Electricity Authority, informs India has approved the export of up to 250 megawatts for Nepal this season.

On the other hand, officials are also holding talks to export electricity in the monsoon next year, according to the authority. “India has agreed to export power until July 2021, but we will have excess production before that. Therefore, talks are underway for export also.”

Nepal hopes to export 500 to 600 megawatts of electricity next monsoon.

Recently, the cross-country Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line has come into operation, and Nepal hopes it will be crucial in power trade between the two countries.
