Kathmandu, August 5

The Ministry of Health and Population says it has expected a fall in the number of active Covid-19 cases as time will progress in the next five months. Yet, the country will add around 200,000 new cases in the period, it estimates.

Whereas the ministry expects about 53,000 new cases from mid-July to mid-August, the per-month figure is expected to decrease then onwards.

Speaking in a meeting of the Education and Health Committee in the Parliament on Thursday, the ministry’s Policy, Planning and Monitoring Division Chief Dr Guna Raj Lohani said the per-month count of new cases could decrease to around 45,000, 38,000, 31,000 and 25,000 in the next four months.

In total, there would be over 193,000 new cases in the next five months, Lohani informed.

Of them, over 38,000 would require hospital support, he said, adding over 9,000 might require intensive care unit.
