Nepal fails to get rid of EU air safety ban yet again

Kathmandu, December 12

Once again, Nepal has failed to convince the European Union to lift its ban on the flight of aircraft of Nepali companies in the European sky.

A recent revision made to the European Commission Air Safety List has kept Nepal among 15 states whose all airlines have been banned from operating in the region. Nepali airline companies have been banned in Europe since 2013. The commission has been claiming that the ban has been imposed “due to a lack of safety oversight by the aviation authorities.”

Meanwhile, the revised list has removed airline companies from Gabon “following improvements to the aviation safety situation in that country”.

After the revision, a total of 115 airline companies are banned from the European skies including all companies of 15 countries such as Nepal and six individual companies of different counties.

An additional three airlines are subject to operational restrictions and can only fly to the EU with specific aircraft types.
