Nepal ‘corrects’ Covid-19 death count to take it to 2,684

Kathmandu, February 25

The government of Nepal has ‘corrected’ its Covid-19 death count by adding over 600 death incidents in a single day.

Although only one person died of the disease on Wednesday, the daily update issued by the Ministry of Health and Population says 619 new death cases were reported in a single day. It means 618 death reports were missing until yesterday.

With the corrected information, 2,684 people died of the coronavirus infection since the pandemic began last year, according to the government.

Earlier, the government was accused of hiding the death data after it was found that the Nepal Army, which has been assigned with the task of giving funeral to the victims, had different figures.

Now, the government has accepted it and said the data have been updated based on the information provided by other governing agencies active in managing the crisis.
