Kathmandu, March 18
Ministry of Transportation and Physical Infrastructure has sought Rs 17 billion to conduct the feasibility study of the Nepal-China railway.
Secretary Madhusudan Adhikari informed members of Parliament on Monday that the ministry needs the amount to conduct a detailed feasibility study and prepare a report after the Chinese side helped conduct the pre-feasibility study.
Talking to members of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Adhikari said that due to budget constraints, the feasibility study work of Birgunj-Kathmandu railways had not been conducted although the project’s. pre-feasibility of the study had been carried out with help from India.
According to the ministry, the feasibility study for Kerung-Kathmandu railway and Birgunj -Kathmandu railway will cost around Rs 35 billion and Rs 7 billion respectively. The secretary also informed the committee that the ministry could only spend 38 per cent of its development expenditure due to delays at the local and provincial level.
