Kathmandu, August 28
The Nepal government has requested India and China to urgently build 42 Bailey bridges to restore transportation in flood-affected areas.
According to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal has asked both countries for assistance, specifying the number of Bailey bridges it urgently needs.
The government has made arrangements to receive foreign assistance based on the requirements identified by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. After the authority assessed that 42 bridges are urgently needed to restore transportation, the government approached both countries for assistance.
Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at a regular press briefing on Thursday that India would provide Nepal with assistance, including Bailey bridges, whenever required.
Most bridges in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading were destroyed by the floods, bringing two-way movement of people and vehicles in the affected areas to a halt.
