Nepal Army ‘alert’ to challenges in recent political developments

Kathmandu, May 1

The Nepal Army has said it is alert to security challenges that might emerge in recent political circumstances.

The national military organisation held a meeting of its top officials on Sunday evening, a couple of hours after an impeachment motion was filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki and Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi resigned, to analyse recent situations, according to a statement issued by the Nepal Army Directorate of Public Relations.

The meeting reviewed security challenges and decided to adopt needful security measures, according to the statement.

The government has already decided to mobilise army for local level elections scheduled for May 14 and June 14.
