NEA stops power supply to deities at Janaki Temple after priest refuses to clear dues

At Janakpur sub-metropolis alone, electricity consumers owe Nepal Electricity Authority more than Rs 340 million.

This, despite the fact that Janakpur distribution centre of the NEA has initiated a campaign to deny electricity to consumers with outstanding dues. According to Jitendra Kumar Jha, chief engineer at the centre, they are yet to recoup Rs 340 million, including for the use of street lamps.

Janakpur zonal hospital, among others, has yet to pay power tariff amounting to around Rs 5.6 million.

The famous Janaki Temple owes the NEA around 5.8 million rupees, while Janakpur submetropolis owes around five lakh rupees and Janaki eye hospital around Rs 3.6 million. NEA has stopped supplying electricity to Janaki Temple. It took the move two days ago.

Chief engineer Jha said the temple has not paid tariff of 33 months amounting to around Rs 5.8 million. According to Jha, the temple’s Mahanta (chief priest) Ram Tapeshwor Das has said he will clear the dues only after the Guthi Sansthan provides him the money.
