NEA disconnects power lines to several industries

electricity transmission line - power lines

Kathmandu, December 25

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has started disconnecting power lines to several industries due to non-payment of dedicated and trunk line electricity tariffs.

The affected companies include Sarbottam Cement, Lakshmi Steel Industry, Triveni Spinning Mill, and Ashok Steel.

The authority alleges outstanding amounts of Rs 830 million from Sarbottam  Cement and Rs 620 million from Lakshmi Steel. Additionally, other industries with arrears exceeding Rs 500 million have also faced power line disconnection.

In a similar action last Friday, the Authority cut power lines to four other industries – Jagdamba Steel, Ghorahi Cement, Reliance Spinning Mills, and Arghakhanchi Cement. As of Friday, the authority has intensified disconnections to industries with higher outstanding amounts.

However, the decision to disconnect power lines specifically for dedicated feeder and trunk lines has sparked controversy.
