Kathmandu, June 7
The ruling Nepal Communist Party has called a meeting of the party’s secretariat to discuss the controversial Millennium Challenge Corporation deal signed between the governments of Nepal and the United States in 2017.
The meeting will take place at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday afternoon.
The deal has not been implemented yet as the Federal Parliament has not endorsed it. The ruling party is dived over the issue. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli wants to endorse it as soon as possible whereas others including the party’s executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal have urged for a revision before the endorsement citing some of the provisions are against national interest.
Meanwhile, a task force formed by the party has also suggested that the deal should not be endorsed without revision. The report of the task force has not been officially discussed in the party.
