Kathmandu, July 8

Dozens of leaders and cadres of the ruling Nepal Communist Party staged a demonstration at the party’s central office in Kathmandu, warning senior leaders of the party against any action that would result in the party split.

As the differences between two chairmen of the party, KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, have not been resolved yet, other leaders have staged a sit-in, putting pressure on the leadership to find a solution at the earliest. They have exhibited a banner that quotes the NCP founder Pushpa Lal Shrestha’s statement, “The principal issue is policy, not leaders.”

NCP central committee member Thakur Gaire says some central leaders themselves took the initiative to pressures the leadership.

Meanwhile, the party’s halted standing committee meeting has been postponed until Friday.
