NCP leader Bhim Rawal has criticised the Home Ministry for issuing a circular to all district administration officers to issue citizenship certificates to children of citizens who acquired their citizenship through the jus soli provision.
Rawal said that the Home Ministry should not have issued the circular while the citizenship bill was being discussed in Parliament. He also questioned the government’s respect for parliament and said that authorities decided on the issue in haste.
“The government is not respecting Parliament. It is quite wrong that the government is issuing such circulars while the bill was being tabled in Parliament. Is the government trying to repeat what happened in 2063 BS?” question Rawal on Twitter.
The Home Ministry last week sent out a circular to all 77 districts asking them to issue citizenships to children of citizens who acquired citizenship through jus soli.
