NC, UML confident of victory in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, May 15

As the counting of votes in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City is yet to start, the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML have expressed their confidence in winning the mayoral position in the most populous metropolis of the country.

Speaking with Onlinekhabar on Monday morning, NC mayoral candidate Raju Raj Joshi said he would get over 40 per cent votes whereas the UML candidate Bidya Sundar Shakya would be restricted to 30 per cent.

“I will win with the margin of 15,000 to 20,000,” a confident Joshi said, adding the alternative political forces including the Sajha Party and the Bibeksheel Nepali could not affect much in the results.

UML candidate Shakya also agreed with Joshi that the major competitors are NC and UML, adding he would secure a clear win against Joshi.

“I just have some projections, but not details,” Shakya told Onlinekhabar, “But, I am confident and elated.”

Both the opponents said they would extend support to the newly elected mayor even if the results would not favour them.
