Kathmandu, October 9

After it was revealed that Home Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi deliberately put the resignation submitted by Nepal Police DIG Nawaraj Silwal on hold, Home Minister Janardan Sharma approved the resignation.

Though Sharma approved the resignation recently, he has put the date of Friday in the approval so as to prevent any controversy related to the former police official’s entry into the CPN-UML, a source says.

Amidst a function in Kathmandu on Friday, Silwal had joined the main opposition party. Some people had criticised him for entering politics without getting his resignation approved.

Silwal had resigned from the police organisation on September 12 after the Supreme Court upheld the government decision to appoint Aryal to the position.  Earlier, he had demanded that he be appointed to the top post.
