Kathmandu, December 20

Top leaders of the Left Alliance have met President Bidya Devi Bhandari to discuss the provisions of the controversial National Assembly Election Ordinance.

UML leader KP Oli, Maoist Centre chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, along with former Speaker and UML leader Subas Nembang, met President Bhandari at her office this morning,

The meeting comes as Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and the Nepali Congress press the President to approve the draft ordinance the government sent to Shital Niwas ahead of the parliamentary elections. The ordinance the government sent has provisions for a single-transferable-vote system, which the UML has strongly opposed.

If elections to the National Assembly are held under a majoritarian system, the Nepali Congress is at risk of not winning a single seat.
