Oli-Dahal not on the same page regarding Cabinet reshuffle

Co-chairs of Nepal Communist Party, PM KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, have failed to reach a consensus regarding the Cabinet reshuffle. The reshuffle was supposed to take place on Monday. However, as the two leaders couldn’t reach an agreement, it has been put on hold again.

The two held a meeting on Monday to discuss which ministers to remove and which one to keep.

According to a source at Baluwatar, Agriculture Minister Chakrapani Khanal and Industry Minister Matrika Yadav will lose their positions as ministers. Similarly, Minister for Children and Senior Citizens Tham Maya Thapa will also lose her position.

Following the hearings, the bench on Monday also directed for a compensation of Rs 1 million—including Rs 500,000 from the rapists and the same amount from the government — considering the physical and mental harm inflicted on the victim. The verdict comes eight years after the crime.

The rape took place on March 20, 2012. The incident only came to light after the victim, who suffered mental illness following the rape, made a recovery. Police had arrested the accused amid pressure from media, civil society and student organisations.
