Biratnagar, January 23

A woman at Baliya, Sundarharaicha municipality-4 of the Morang district in eastern Nepal has reported surviving a gang rape recently.

Police, looking into the case, have arrested two suspects, but two others are on the run.

The alleged survivor has been identified as a 30-year-old woman, a resident of Belbari municipality-4 of the district, who was on the way to her sister’s house from Itahari of the neighbouring Sunsari district.

As she forgot the way to the sister’s house, she asked the way to some men at Gachhiya in Sundarharaicha-4 on Friday evening. One man named Ram Bahadur Nepali offered her help and asked her to board his vehicle (Pradesh 2-01-001 Cha 227), but he took her to the Shrestha Hotel and Family Lodge there, according to police.

There, the suspects committed the crime overnight.

The woman is still critical due to excessive bleeding. She is undergoing treatment at the Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar.

For their alleged involvement in the crime, police have arrested the hotelier Arjun Shrestha (36), and Aarati Shrestha, a staff member.

Masterminds of the crime–Ram Bahadur Nepali and Manoj Shrestha–are on the run, and police have launched a manhunt.

Further investigation is underway.
