Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal is set to depart for Fiji to participate in the Pre-COP Leaders Event on climate change. His secretariat said his schedule has him departing for Fiji on Saturday.

The secretariat said a four-member Nepali delegation led by Minister Khanal will travel to Fiji and Tuvalu to take part in the event, which will be held on October 5 and 6.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, Minister Khanal will address the Leaders Plenary session being held on October 6.

Ahead of that session, he will also take part in a press question-and-answer program being jointly organized with the President of Palau and the prime ministers of Australia and Fiji.

Nepal’s participation in the Pre-COP Leaders Event, organised to advance global dialogue and cooperation on climate change, is expected to offer an opportunity to raise the impacts of climate change, climate justice, and issues of concern to mountain nations on the international stage.

After taking part in the events in Fiji and Tuvalu, Foreign Minister Khanal will travel to Australia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said he has a bilateral meeting scheduled with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on October 8.

The meeting is expected to cover Nepal-Australia relations, bilateral cooperation, and various matters of mutual interest.

During his visit to Australia, Minister Khanal will also take part in separate programs organised by the Nepali Embassy in Canberra and the Nepali diaspora in Sydney.

Through these programs, he will interact with the Nepali community in Australia.

Minister Khanal is scheduled to return to Nepal on October 12.
