Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Basanta Kumar Nembang says the government cannot give transport entrepreneurs and workers any relief package to help them recover the loss caused by the Covid-19 outbreak and subsequent movement restrictions imposed across the country.

A delegation comprising representatives of Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs and three unions of transport workers met Nembang on Friday and demanded they be give some relief packages.

“The minister said our demand was genuine, but he added the government was not in a position to give any relief,” Bhim Jwala Rai, the chairman of a trade union who met the minister today, says.

Meanwhile, the entrepreneurs and workers demanded that the government lift all restrictions imposed on the movement of vehicles across the country from coming Thursday. In response, the minister said he was also in favour of ending the restrictions.

“But, I cannot decide alone. There are other agencies such as the Ministry of Health,” Rai quotes the minister as saying, “I will forward your concerns to the prime minister.”
