Minister Baskota warns Nepal Telecom staff against protest

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota addresses the anniversary function of Nepal Telecom in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.

Kathmandu, February 5

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota has told agitating staff of the government-owned Nepal Telecom not to continue their strike. He warns that the staff will face the action if they fail to perform the assigned duties.

Minister Baskota turned angry after some staff staged a demonstration against the company in front of him while a function organised on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the company was underway, in Kathmandu on Thursday. Addressing the function, hence, Baskota said he would not tolerate political activities inside the company.

“If you want to do politics, join a party. There is no place in this organisation,” he said, “I will calculate what you have done. I will not tolerate anarchy.”

Of late, the staff are on the strike protesting an amendment to regulations of the company. Baskota clarified that not the company, but the Public Service Commission made the amendment.

“Please love your organisation,” the minister said.
