The newly formed Medical Education Commission got the full shape.
The commission’s chairperson, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, appointed five members recently to give the full shape. The appointed members are Ramesh Kanta Adhikari and Gita Gurung from the civil society, Dr Divya Singh Shah, Dr Shaili Pradhan and Dr Jagadish Agrawal from among medical education experts.
Likewise, vice-chancellors of Tribhuvan University, Patan Academy of Health and Sciences and BP Koirala Institute of Health and Sciences are also members of the commission representing the institutions that run medical education programmes.
The commission also includes representatives from the National Planning Commission, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training, Nepal Health Research Council, Nepal Nursing Association, Nepal Health Professional Council, Nepal Medical Council, Nepal Medical Council, Nepal Medical Association and organisations of private medical and dental colleges.
Earlier, the government had appointed Shree Krishna Giri as the vice chairperson.
The commission is authorised to regulate the operation of medical colleges, and determine their seats and fees among others.
