The Rautahat district court has fined 21 people including a mayor for helping two Indian nationals procure Nepali citizenship.
Kathariya Municipality Mayor Siva Prasad Kuswaha and 20 others helped Hafeez Dewan and Oli Mohammad Dewan of Champaran, Bihar procure Nepali citizenship, the court held. Similarly, the court has fined the two Indian citizens Rs 50,000 each for applying for Nepali citizenship.
Santa Bahadur Shrestha, a resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, had filed a complaint against the duo four years ago accusing them of illegally applying for citizenship.
