Mandala Theatre Nepal has officially announced the commencement of its new theatre season for the Nepali year 2082–83, featuring a lineup of productions directed by 11 emerging and established theatre-makers.
The season will include both internal directors from the Mandala Board and guest directors. The lineup features Somnath Khanal, Suraj Yadav, Umesh Tamang, Bikash Joshi, Buddhi Tamang, and Sagar Khati Kami from the Mandala team, alongside guest directors Saraswoti Chaudhary, Gunjan Dixit, Sangita Thapa Magar, Sudip Khatiwada, and Sandeep Shrestha.
In addition, two productions postponed from the previous season—set to be directed by Anup Baral and Kiran Chamling Rai—will also be staged this year.
“The new season will explore a wide range of genres, including psychological dramas, family narratives, experimental and multimedia-based productions, community-driven plays, and children’s theatre,” the press release states. “Central to these works will be themes such as gender inequality, trauma from armed conflict, mental health, LGBTQ+ identity, regional stories from Madhesh, and educational content for children.”
As part of a new initiative to encourage early attendance and align with international theatre practices, Mandala has introduced a tiered ticket pricing system. During the first two weeks of each production, student tickets will cost Rs. 300 and general admission Rs. 500. In the final two weeks, prices will increase to Rs. 500 for students and Rs. 1,000 for general audiences.
