Man arrested for the rape and murder of 11-year-old girl in Dhanusa

Kathmandu, February 19

Police have arrested a man in connection with the rape and murder of 11-year-old Dittiya Rasaili of Hariharpur, Dhanusha.

Rasaili was found dead on a farm in Haripur on Thursday night. Police said that her body had been set on fire after she was raped.

According to police, Niraj Jardha Magar, aka ‘Hamli Don’ allegedly raped and burnt the girl alive near a sugarcane farm in Magar Tol. Following the incident, law enforcement officers summoned a team of medical professionals to start an investigation.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Hari Bahadur Paal said Magar, who was fleeing Nepal, was caught near Duhabi Tol. He said Magar was trying to go to India.

Magar, during interrogation, said that he along with four others gang-raped Rasaili and burnt her alive. However, police after an investigation found that Magar alone allegedly perpetrated the crime. “He was trying to trick us by giving us fake names,” added Paal.

Police have booked Magar for culpable homicide and are investigating the case further. Magar told police that he lured Rasaili by offering her a packet of Waiwai and Frooty.
