Arun Kumar Sah, a shopkeeper in Bardibas, has been nabbed on the charge of murdering a six-year-old girl, on Monday, November 23, 2020.

Janakpurdham, November 24

A six-year-old girl has been found dead in Bardibas municipality of Mahottari district of southeastern Nepal on Monday evening.

Police say a local shopkeeper has confessed to killing her under the influence of alcohol. Locals have also suspected she was raped before the murder, but police say there is not any evidence to support this claim.

However, further investigation is underway. Police hope the victim’s postmortem report will also tell them something about the cause of the death.

The victim, Gulab Sah Khatun, a daughter of local Shahid Alam, a resident of Bardibas-14, was missing since Sunday evening. Her body was recovered in a farm near her house last night, informs DSP Rajan Chapagain, the chief of Bardibas Area Police Office.

Prakash Regmi, the chief of Gaushala Area Police Post, in the district says law enforcers mobilised from his station arrested Arun Kumar Sah, a resident of Gaushala-5, who also ran a grocery shop in Bardibas.

Regmi says Sah told his family last night that he killed the girl. “After we were informed of this, we detained and interrogated him,” Regmi says, “He has confessed to the murder.”

Meanwhile, locals of Bardibas have staged rounds of protests this morning, demanding action against the culprit.
