Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has accused CIAA Chief Commissioner Lokman Singh Karki of transforming the constitutional
anti-corruption agency into an organisation that creates terror.
Deuba, wrapping up the NC Central Working Committee meeting on Tuesday, came down heavily on the suspended CIAA chief. He accused CIAA under Karki of ‘terrorising’ more than the royal commission, referring to the investigation commission that then King Gyanendra Shah had formed to investigate into irregularities on the part of high-profile political leaders. Deuba accused CIAA of terrorising the whole country.
He reminded the audience that it was he, who created the CIAA in the wake of increasing complaints related to corruption.
But the same CIAA has become a terror creating agency of sorts because of Lokman Singh Karki, Deuba said.
The chief of the largest party in Nepal’s Parliament, Deuba said there should be serious discussions on what kind of CIAA should we have, what powers it should have.
A CWC member quoted Deuba as saying: CIAA is all-powerful. Whoever replaces Lokman may become equally powerful.
