Left Alliance’s Dahal elected Vice-chair of National Assembly

Kathmandu, March 18

Maoist leader Sashikala Dahal has been elected Vice-chair of National Assembly. She was elected to the post with the backing of the Left Alliance.

During the election for the post held at the National Assembly on Sunday, Dahal, who was elected to the legislature from Province 2, received 45 votes. Dahal’s challenger the Nepali Congress’ Brinda Devi Ale received 11 votes only. Of the 59 members of the National Assembly, 56 were present to vote in the election.

According to the constitution, the Chair and the Vice-chair of the assembly need to be of different gender. Earlier Ganesh Timalsina of the UML was elected Chair of the upper House.
