Kathmandu, December 20

Leaders from the ruling Nepal Communist Party and other opposition parties have objected to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s decision to recommend for the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

They say the constitution does not allow a prime minister to dissolve the House unless there is a situation that the House cannot elect the PM with majority support.

The ruling party’s senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal says Oli cannot dissolve the parliament. Likewise, the party’s spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha says the decision cannot be implemented.

Former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai says the cabinet meeting this morning is unconstitutional and undemocratic. He has urged all to protest the move.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Nepali Congress spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma says his party will protest the move “politically”.
