After a federal lawmaker of the ruling Nepal Communist Party registered a private bill demanding that the government legalise marijuana farming in the country, a few lawmakers at the provincial level are preparing to register a similar bill in their respective provincial assemblies.

Former minister for law, Sher Bahadur Tamang, had registered the bill in the House of Representatives last week. Following that, the same party’s Provincial Assembly member Keshav Sthapit had registered a similar bill in Bagmati.

“Lawmakers in other provinces are also excited about registering the bill. The names will be finalised in a few days and it will be registered in all provinces,” Tamang says. The leaders believe that registering the bill in all the provinces would put pressure on the federal government to consider the proposal.

Sthapit also informs that some people also launch a signature campaign in support of the bill.
