Transportation on the Karnali Highway has been disrupted by a landslide near Kalekhola in Kalikot district.

Kalikot Chief District Officer Chandra Bahadur Karki says the landslide damaged the road severely.

The landslide debris has also deposited on a stretch of 40 metres.

Prior to this, small landslides were cleared quickly, but this time, it seems challenging to remove the debris. It may take a long time to restore the damaged road.

A team from the District Administration Office and another technical team from the Road Division Office have left for the site for inspection.

As the traffic operation came to a complete halt, the passengers have been urged to cancel their trips via the route.

Containers and passenger buses en route to Kalikot via Surkhet and Nepalgunj have been left stranded, says District Administration Officer of Jumla, Durga Banjade, adding that it is trying to find suitable equipment to clear off the landslide debris.

With the highway obstruction, the people of Jumla face the compulsion of using an air route for travel.
