Kohalpur ward chair kills self ‘after failure to pay off debt’

A ward chairman in Kohalpur municipality of Banke district has committed suicide reportedly after his failure to pay off a debt worth around Rs 2 million to a bank.

Krishna Bahadur Khadka, the chair of ward 12 of the city, was found dead in a hotel room in Bahraich of India on Wednesday. The body of local Nepal Communist Party leader was brought to Nepal on Thursday and cremated on Friday morning, according to the city’s mayor Lut Bahadur Rawat.

Rawat informs that investigators found a 22-page suicide note in the hotel room. In the note, Khadka had said he was trapped in some financial issues. The family sources say he had to pay off around Rs 2 million debt that he had borrowed from a bank.

Khadka had left his home on Tuesday, saying he would go to Mehalkuna of neighbouring Surkhet district.
