Kathmandu, April 8

The Kirtipur municipality in Kathmandu has hosted a two-day employment conference to discuss employment opportunities that youth in the locality can pursue and the challenges they have to face.

The event held on Thursday and Friday included panel discussions and interactions on employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, stall exhibitions and presentations from employers and potential employers, and an open market of various goods produced by locals of Kirtipur at their house by using vocational skills.

The municipal government’s youth council organised the event as unemployment has been one of the most pressing issues of youth in the town, informs the council’s spokesperson Santosh Maharjan.

“The federal government has launched the Prime Minister’s Employment Programme, but I don’t think this will be successful in giving the youth employment opportunities for the long run,” Maharjan says, “Hence, by organising this employment conference, we want our youth to know more about other available employment opportunities.”
