Kin vandalise Biratnagar clinic as woman dies after gall bladder surgery

Relatives of a patient gather in front of the Abadh Narayan Memorial Clinic in Biratnagar after the patient died, on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

Biratnagar, January 17

Relatives of a patient have vandalised the Abadh Narayan Memorial Clinic in Biratnagar of southeastern Nepal on Sunday after the patient died following surgery.

The relatives claim Sajana Rai, 32, from Belbari municipality-8 of Morang died due to the doctors’ negligence. They have refused to receive the patient’s body, staging a protest.

The doctors had carried out an operation in their bid to remove a stone from there, according to the clinic. Later, she had breathed her last during treatment at Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Medical Sciences during treatment on Friday.

Rai was admitted to the clinic on Tuesday last week and her surgery was done on the same day. However, her condition got more complicated following the operation, which forced the doctors at the clinic to refer the case to the Dharan-based health facility.

Meanwhile, police have arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in vandalism, according to DSP Lok Darshan Thapa of the District Police Office.
