Kathmandu, March 30

The government has launched a new programme to give an allowance of Rs 5,000 a month to each kidney, cancer and spinal injury patient.

The Ministry of Health and Population made a decision to this effect on Sunday, according to the ministry. The ministry has also finalised a standard operating procedure to facilitate the process.

“The programme to give allowance for kidney, cancer and spinal injury patients was included in the government’s annual policy and programme for this year. But, it was not implemented for a want of the operating procedure,” Health Minister Birodh Khatiwada’s advisor Dr Ramesh Dhakal says.

According to the ministry’s decision, local governments will be authorised to distribute the money to the beneficiary.
