Kathmandu, December 16

The government is preparing to give state honours to Keshav Bhattarai, the chairperson of Film Development Board Nepal, who died on Sunday night. The family is preparing to cremate his body at Pashupati Aryaghat this afternoon.

The government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota says the government is giving the honours in recognition of his ‘exemplary’ contribution to the development of Nepali cinema industry. Bhattarai, 53, was active in the industry for the past 30 years as an actor and a producer.

Generally, a Cabinet meeting decides giving state honours to deceased persons. Accordingly, the ministry will float a proposal during the meeting scheduled later this afternoon. But, Bhattarai will be cremated before that. Hence, the minister will consult the prime minister and the chief secretary to make the arrangements, it has been learned.

Before the cremation, his body has been currently kept at the board office in Chabahil of Kathmandu.
