Kathmandu city to remove bus park from Khulamanch ‘in 1 week’

Kathmandu, April 12

The Kathmandu metropolitan city claims it will remove the bus park from Khulamanch within one week.

The city government had shifted the Old Bus Park (Purano Bus Park) of Kathmandu to Khulamanch claiming to build the Kathmandu Tower, a view tower cum business complex, that will also have a bus terminal. However, the project is not likely to become successful anytime soon.

Nonetheless, owing to public pressure and calls for a larger open space in the city, the municipal government has decided to remove the bus park facility from there.

The KMC Chief Administrative Officer Rajeshwar Gyawali says the government has already talked with concerned transport entrepreneurs about the removal.

According to him, short-route vehicles travelling inside the city will continue operating from outside Khulamanch and Ratna Park in a pick-and-drop model without waiting for the passengers for a long time.

Long-route vehicles such as buses going to various places of Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Ramechhap and Dolakha districts will now have to find their spots in the Naya Bus Park of Gongabu or Koteshwar or any point in Bhaktapur.

“But, anyway, we will reestablish Khulamanch ready to hold public functions in just one week,” Gyawali assures.
