Karnali dispute divides Oli and Dahal yet again

Kathmandu, October 20

A dispute surfaced among the ruling Nepal Communist Party’s leaders in the Karnali province has divided the party’s two central chairpersons–KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal–once again.

Whereas Prime Minister Oli wants the two chairpersons to find a solution to the problem to instruct the provincial leaders, Dahal says the provincial leaders themselves will solve it.

Interestingly, Dahal had earlier urged Oli and another senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal to convince provincial leaders close to them to withdraw the no-confidence motion registered against Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi.

Oli and Dahal held a meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss the dispute, but they could not make any conclusion as Dahal did not agree to issue any instruction to the provincial leaders, it has been learned.

Oli has been repeatedly saying that provinces are just administrative units of the central government, hence the provincial leaders should seek guidance from the central leaders for crucial decisions.
