Dhangadhi, November 25
Locals in the Lamkichuha municipality in the Kailali district of Sudurpaschim have obstructed a section of the East-West Highway there after a truck hit a woman there, killing her on the spot.
The vehicle (Na 2 Kha 9370) had hit Goma Thapa (40), a resident of Lamkichuha-2 when she was crossing the road on Thursday afternoon, according to police.
SP Bamdev Gautam of the Provincial Police Office says enraged locals torched the truck there and obstructed the road, demanding action against the truck driver and compensation to the victim’s family.
The Kailali District Police Office says a clash ensued during the demonstration and security personnel used tear gas shells to contain the situation.
The road is still blocked, leaving several vehicles stuck halfway.
