The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal has decided to mark Constitution Day (September 19) as “Protest Day.”
Party leader Purna Basnet said JSP Nepal will observe the day by holding an “interaction, debate, and discussion program on the fundamental content of the current constitution and the necessity of constitutional amendment.”
JSP Nepal argues that although the constitution enshrines key achievements, like vesting sovereignty in the Nepali people, some previously agreed-upon matters were later overturned by a majority vote, and discrimination persists despite its positive provisions.
Saying that amending or revising the constitution is essential, Basnet stated that the party has directed all its district committees to organise interaction and discussion programs to mark the day as a protest day.
