Kathmandu, March 25

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Netra Bikram Chand-led splinter Maoist group to join peaceful politics.

Oli, who was speaking at the NCP Parliamentary Party meeting in Parliament, said that if Chand and members of his group do not do so, all of them will be arrested. Briefing the party on the work of his one-year-old government, the Prime Minister said that Chand still had time to return to peaceful politics.

“The group (Chand group) should utlitise the opportunity they have and join peaceful politics. If they do not do so, all of them will be arrested,” said Oli.

The Prime Minister’s statement comes a few hours after police arrested two senior leaders of the party, which has owned up to various bomb attacks on various establishments including the NCell office in Nakkhu, Kathmandu. The government recently banned the activities of the party after it was revealed that it was going to attack hi-profile targets in Kathmandu.
