Kathmandu, April 24
It is now illegal for providers of essential services in Nepal to go on strike, the government says.
According to Minister Gokul Banskota, who is also the government’s spokerson, the government is preparing to issue a notification on it gazette.
The decision comes just days after private transport service operators issued an ultimatum to the government to address the demands. They have threatened to go on an indefinite strike if the government does not heed their demands.
Similarly, tanker operators ferrying fuel to Kathmandu and other parts of the country are also preparing to go on strike after the government decided to introduce stringent measures to check leakages. According to sources, the government plans to use this rule to discourage strikes.
